Our Focus Area

Why this neighborhood?
The team will focus on central Bastrop. The area is bounded by the Colorado River (on the west), Farm Street (on the north), SH 95 (on the east) and SH 71 (on the south) for three reasons:
• Central Bastrop is the economic and civic core of the City, anchoring not only its historical identity but also its identity as a tourist destination.
• Central Bastrop is a classic “mixed use” area with large and small businesses (retail, restaurants and professional services) single and multi-family residences, schools, city and county offices and service facilities, public service organizations, historic and new structures, open space and recreational resources, and a diverse population.
• Central Bastrop presents a significant number of challenges that the community at large faces: drainage, streets and transportation, utilities, economic revitalization, historic preservation, redevelopment, public safety, etc.
Findings and recommendations for this neighborhood can serve as a template for addressing these complex challenges for the community at large, now and in the future.
